Browns Hotels & Resorts marked a significant milestone in its sustainability journey with the official launch of its Sustainability Strategic Plan – BIGG CARE, held on 18 August 2026 at The Eden, Beruwala. BIGG CARE, which stands for Browns Hotels & Resorts Initiative for Green Governance, Climate Action, Accountability, Resource Efficiency & Engagement, represents the Group’s commitment to embedding sustainability and responsible business practices across its operations.
The event brought together distinguished guests, senior management, sustainability professionals, industry experts, and other key stakeholders to celebrate this important step towards strengthening sustainability within the hospitality sector..
The official launch and presentation of the Browns Hotels & Resorts Sustainability Strategic Plan – BIGG CARE was conducted by Mr. Eksath Wijeratne, CEO, Browns Hotels & Resorts. The occasion also featured the launch of the Group’s Bi-Annual Sustainability Newsletter, further strengthening the communication and engagement of sustainability initiatives across the organisation.
The event featured an insightful address by Ms. Harshini Halangode, Country Programme Manager, UN-Habitat Sri Lanka, followed by a keynote speech delivered by Prof. Ajith De Alwis, Senior Professor, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Moratuwa.
A key highlight of the programme was the expert panel discussion centred on the theme “Green Governance, Climate Action, Accountability, Resource Efficiency & Engagement.” The panel brought together leading experts including Prof. Ajith De Alwis, Prof. Sevvandi Jayakody, Dr. Sharmen Vidanage, and Dr. Leonie Vaas, with Ms. Prashani Illangasinghe, Co-Founder of AlchemX Global, serving as the moderator. The discussion provided valuable perspectives on the challenges and opportunities associated with advancing sustainability, climate action, resource efficiency and accountability within organisations and the wider industry.
