Clean-Up at Valachchenai Harbour for World Oceans Day 2026

To mark World Ocean Day, the team at Calm Resort and Spa partnered with the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) and the Sri Lanka Navy Coastal Guards for a beach clean-up programme at Valachchenai Harbour. The initiative focused on removing plastic waste and other litter from the coastal environment, contributing towards cleaner shorelines and raising awareness of marine conservation.

Thoppigala Route Clean-up and Awareness programme

The Calm Hotel team for the World Environement Day participated in a route clean up and nature walk from Thoppigala Heritage Park to Thoppigala Rock. The celebration also included an environmental quiz competition to promote awareness among the staff.

Eco-friendly Vesak Lantern Competition

Calm Resort & Spa organized a lantern competition among staff members using recycled and eco-friendly materials. The initiative highlighted the importance of resource conservation , creativity and waste reduction.

Waste Management Awareness Programme

At Calm Resort and Spa a Waste Management Awareness Programme was successfully conducted on 13th January 2026 for students of Pethalai Vipulananda College, with the participation of 30 students. The programme aimed to raise awareness on proper waste management and environmental responsibility.

World Beach Day Awareness program

To commemorate World Beach Day, Calm Resort & Spa partnering with twenty-four students from Namagal College, Kalkudah, for a beach conservation initiative. Participants took part in waste segregation, bin painting, beach clean-up, and sand crafting activities, fostering environmental awareness and encouraging responsible waste management practices.

World Children's Day at Namagal Vidyalayam

The Calm Resort & Spa by Browns Hotels & Resorts celebrated World Children’s Day by handing over recycling bins in waste management system to Namagal Vidyalayam, featuring designs created by the students. This initiative was a continuation of the World Beach Day program held in September.

World Water Day Poster Competition

For World Water Day, Calm Resort and Spa organized a poster competition for students of a local school at the hotel premises. At the event our guests also witnessed the work of the students and encouraged them.

World Earth Day Celebration

As a World Earth Day Celebration, Calm Resort and Spa Organized a tree planting program and a friendly debate competition was also held for students from a local school on environmental awareness.

World Fisheries Day 2024 Celebration

In celebration of World Fisheries Day 2024, The Calm Resort & Spa by Browns Hotels & Resorts hosted an awareness program for Pasikuda fishermen, focusing on fishing safety, marine conservation, and legal awareness. Experts from the Fisheries Department and Valaichchenai Harbor shared insights, while fishermen voiced challenges, fostering collaboration.

World Tourism Day 2024 Celebration

Calm Resort & Spa celebrated World Tourism Day 2024 by hosting an informative session for students of Valaichchenai Hindu College. The session highlighted the importance and history of tourism, along with this year's theme, "Tourism and Peace." Students also learned how the resort showcases local culture through its warm hospitality for guests.
