Dickwella Resort by Browns Hotels & Resorts: The Epic Finish Line Partner of “Race the Pearl”

16 Nov 2023

The stunning vistas of Sri Lanka played host to an epic sporting event, Race the Pearl, a 24-hour cycling challenge spanning 600+ kilometers from Point Pedro to Point Dondra. At the heart of this exhilarating race was the Dickwella Resort by Browns Hotels & Resorts, proudly partnering as the official finish line partner. This coastal haven beautifully located at Point Dondra marked the momentous endpoint of an incredible journey, welcoming the elite cyclists as they concluded their remarkable expedition on October 28th.

Kicking off the 24-hour ultra-endurance event, the race set a new standard in sports tourism potential for Sri Lanka with the participation of international cycling elites from Europe, the US, and the Asia Pacific. Dickwella Resort’s prime position near the southernmost tip of Sri Lanka, with great views of the iconic landmark and tourist attraction, Dondra lighthouse, provided not only a strategic finish line but also breathtaking panoramic views for athletes and visitors.

The Dickwella Resort celebrated human spirit and endurance, offering a perfect stage for the culmination of Race the Pearl, which is a qualifier for Race Across America (RAAM). It was a sight to behold as 65 athletes from Sri Lanka and various corners of the globe marked their victory against the scenic backdrop of Dickwella’s Resort. The International figures, Jan Bakelants – the Tour De France Stage Winner, and Piotr Havik from Netherlands- the UCI Pro Race Winner, emerged victorious in the 24-hour Team category.

Race the Pearl award ceremony presented medals and the winning Pearl jerseys in a lively ambiance accompanied by music and a delightful feast hosted by Rohan Gamage, the General Manager of Dickwella Resort. The hotel’s top-tier accommodation provided athletes with a comfortable retreat, ensuring a relaxing and revitalizing environment after the exhilarating race. This event stands as a testament to Browns Hotels & Resorts’ dedicated partnership in advancing sports tourism in the vibrant landscape of Sri Lanka.
