Sustainability & CSR Initiatives

Caring for our community and the environment is a value that’s embedded in us. We understand that our goal to be one of the best hotels in the region can only be achieved through the well-being of our employees, the community at large, and the conservation of the environment. At Thaala, we have understood that for us to move forward, the balance between the environment and its community must be achieved thus we taken on several initiatives to make that happen in terms of environmental sustainability and community development.

300.44 kWp Solar PV System

A state-of-the-art 300. 44 kWp Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System, representing a significant 76 million rupee investment, was established at Thaala Bentota. With an average monthly generation of 33,040 units and an annual generation of 396,480 units, this unit plans to save around 440 tons of CO2 emissions annually. This is equivalent to planting 250 trees annually!

Conservation of the endangered Lumnitzera littorea (Ratha-Milla) Mangrove

Preserving the newly discovered "Ratha-Milla" mangrove in the Bentota estuarine is imperative for safeguarding Sri Lanka's natural heritage and maintaining ecological equilibrium in the region. The conservation is done in collaboration with the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC). Awareness session and signage unveiling was held on 04.04.2024.

Computer room donation to Udakotuwa Temple in Bentota

Thaala Bentota by Browns Hotels donated a computer room to Udakotuwa Temple, aiming to boost tech access for local youth. CEO Mr. Eksath Wijeratne and GM Mr. Channa Ekanayake contributed to this initiative. This initiative bridges educational resource gaps in Bentota. We believe that education and technology go hand in hand in shaping the youth to a more responsible future.

Creating a platform for local artisans

In an effort to support local artisans, we have established a platform for them to display and sell their artworks within our premises. This initiative is offered free of charge, fostering economic opportunities for talented individuals while enriching the cultural experience for our guests.

No Bin Day at thе Staff Cafeteria

The "No Bin Day" initiative at our staff cafeteria promotes waste reduction by temporarily removing bins on specific days of the week, encouraging mindful consumption. This fosters awareness that every discarded item has a broader impact, reducing waste and cultivating a culture of responsibility among our team, highlighting sustainability as a shared endeavor.

Community Guidance Program on Environmental Protection

Empowering our community with knowledge is integral to our sustainability ethos. Through our Community Guidance Program, we educate local residents on environmental protection measures, waste reduction, and sustainable living practices. By fostering a sense of collective responsibility, we aim to create a resilient and environmentally conscious community.

Career guidance program for school students

Investing in the future of our community, we initiated a "Career Guidance Program" for students at Walagedara Maha Vidyalaya. By providing insights into various career paths and offering mentorship, we aim to inspire and guide the next generation, fostering a sense of ambition and possibility among local youth.

Earth Day Celebration

Earth Day 2024 was celebrated with a beach cleanup conducted by the hotel staff with participation of the the executives actively engaging in this effort along with the rest of the staff.

Femalе Ward Renovation at Divisional Hospital Bentota

Healthcare is a cornerstone of community well-being. We contributed to this by actively participating in the renovation of the female ward at the Divisional Hospital Bentota. This initiative aims to enhance healthcare facilities and improve the overall well-being of the community.

Maintaining thе Bentota Railway Station

Recognizing the historical and cultural significance of the railway, we take pride in maintaining the Bentota Railway Station. By ensuring its cleanliness, safety, and functionality, we contribute to preserving a vital part of our community's heritage.
