Sustainability & CSR Initiatives

At Hotel Sigiriya, caring for our community and the environment is a core value ingrained in our code. We recognize that our aspiration to be one of the premier hotels in the region hinges on the well-being of our employees, the community at large, and the conservation of the environment. Understanding that progress is only sustainable when balanced with environmental and community welfare, we have undertaken various initiatives to achieve this balance. These efforts are focused on environmental sustainability and community development.

Sustainable Bee Honey Farming Initiative

Browns Hotels & Resorts, in collaboration with Hotel Sigiriya, Ayugiri Ayurveda Wellness Resort, and Occidental Paradise Dambulla, launched a sustainable bee honey farming project led by Bee Expert Mr. S. J. K. Kulasinghe. On 12th November 2024, bee boxes were handed to the community and hotels, with ongoing support and honey purchased by Browns to enhance income, culinary, and wellness offerings.

Naturalist Training Program

Browns Hotels & Resorts launched its Naturalist Training Program at Hotel Sigiriya, engaging 12 enthusiastic participants from the area in celebration of World Wildlife Day 2024. The 3-month program, led by seasoned experts from the Sri Lanka Department of Wildlife Conservation, integrates classroom and field experiences. The program concluded on 09.08.2024 with an awarding ceremony.

"Inland Waste's contribution to Ocean Pollution" awareness program in celebration of World Beach Day 2024

On September 11th, we marked World Beach Day with an inland awareness session on "Inland Waste Contribution to Ocean Pollution." In collaboration with Hotel Sigiriya and Occidental Paradise Dambulla, O-level students from Sigiriya Central College learned about inland waste's impact on oceans. Led by Mr. Medhisha Gunawardena, the students will find strategies to reduce their plastic usage at home.

Herbal Garden launch in celebration of World Tourism Day 2024

Hotel Sigiriya launched a Herbal Garden within the hotel premises in celebration of World Tourism Day 2024, marked by a tree planting ceremony. This initiative symbolizes our commitment to promoting ecological balance and wellness through sustainable practices.

Trash collection at Pidurangala Temple Rock in celebration of World Tourism Day 2024

In celebration of World Tourism Day 2024, we made strides in environmental sustainability with key initiatives. We organized a Plastic and Polythene Collecting Campaign at the historic Pidurangala Temple Rock, showcasing our dedication to preserving the natural beauty and cultural heritage of this iconic site.

Joining the Shramadana organized by CTHA for World Environment Day

We joined with CTHA (Cultural Triangle Hoteliers Association) for the World Environment Day to clean the environment as it is our duty as the the hoteliers to do our part for the environment as we too depend on it.

Placing garbage bins at Sigiriya Rock Fortress

Placing 05 large garbage bins at Sigiriya Rock Fortress to collect bottles, polythene and plastics at the selected locations of the heritage site in order to keep the area clean.

Green Garden

We are growing vegetables in the hotel green garden using hotel made compost and utilizing them for the staff menu and purchasing home grown vegetables from the staff on special rate.
