Sustainability & CSR Initiatives

At Hotel Sigiriya, caring for our community and the environment is a core value ingrained in our code. We recognize that our aspiration to be one of the premier hotels in the region hinges on the well-being of our employees, the community at large, and the conservation of the environment. Understanding that progress is only sustainable when balanced with environmental and community welfare, we have undertaken various initiatives to achieve this balance. These efforts are focused on environmental sustainability and community development.

Clean Sigiriya Initiative for World Environment Day 2026

Hotel Sigiriya joined hands with the Sigiriya Pradeshiya Shabha, local authorities, and members of the local community for the Clean Sigiriya Initiative for the World Environment Day.

Sustainable Bee Honey Farming

At Hotel Sigiriya, a flagship sustainability and community development initiative was implemented with the participation of The Paradise Dambulla and Ayugiri Ayurveda Wellness Resort, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Central Province, and Bee honey farming experts of Sri Lanka. The project directly contributes to several SDGs, including SDG 1, SDG 8, SDG 12, and SDG 15.

Protect Sigiriya Rock Fortress

At Hotel Sigiriya, our commitment to protecting the world-renowned Sigiriya Rock Fortress continues. As part of our ongoing sustainability initiative, we have repaired and replaced the damaged plastic waste disposal bins, ensuring that 5 dedicated bins are once again in place for visitors to use.

Child Abuse Awareness Programme for Children's Day

For World Children’s Day, Hotel Sigiriya joined hands with the Women & Children’s Bureau Unit of Sigiriya Police to organize a Child Abuse Awareness programme for school students.

Naturalist Training Program Season 02

Hotel Sigiriya kicks off Season 2 of the Naturalist Training Program! Launched on Endangered Species Day 2025, the program welcomes team members from our Cultural Triangle properties for hands-on training in Sri Lanka’s biodiversity. An expert-led awareness session marked the start of this three-month journey to nurture in-house naturalists.

World Wildlife Day 2025

World Wildlife Day 2025 was celebrated at Hotel Sigiriya with an art competition for Sigiriya Central College students on the theme "Human-Elephant Conflict." The students, familiar with the issue in their communities, expressed their perspectives through vibrant artworks. Their pieces highlighted the conflict’s impact and the need for sustainable solutions for peaceful coexistence.

Sustainable Bee Honey Farming Initiative

Browns Hotels & Resorts, in collaboration with Hotel Sigiriya, Ayugiri Ayurveda Wellness Resort, and Occidental Paradise Dambulla, launched a sustainable bee honey farming project led by Bee Expert Mr. S. J. K. Kulasinghe. On 12th November 2024, bee boxes were handed to the community and hotels, with ongoing support and honey purchased by Browns to enhance income, culinary, and wellness offerings.

Naturalist Training Program

Browns Hotels & Resorts launched its Naturalist Training Program at Hotel Sigiriya, engaging 12 enthusiastic participants from the area in celebration of World Wildlife Day 2024. The 3-month program, led by seasoned experts from the Sri Lanka Department of Wildlife Conservation, integrates classroom and field experiences. The program concluded on 09.08.2024 with an awarding ceremony.
